EMDR Therapy Seattle

Break Free of Old Patterns with EMDR

Living with the effects of anxiety, depression, and trauma can be overwhelming. You feel unsure of who you are and what you want in your life; you struggle to feel present in your body. Most days, everything feels out of control, and you don’t know how to get control.

Why Can’t I Have What It Feels Like Others Have Easily?

On some level, you know you are a capable adult because you have a good education and a good job. Yet you feel you are missing something in your life that you see your friends have easily.

Traditional Talk Therapy May Not Create the Change You Want

Perhaps you’ve been in therapy for years, but you are still not where you want to be in your life. You’ve learned a lot about yourself with previous therapists and gained good coping skills. However, they are hard to put into practice because you still get emotionally hijacked, overwhelmed, and confused easily.

Is EMDR Therapy in Seattle Right For You?

EMDR may be right for you if you’ve:

• Experienced a single traumatic event

• Have had abuse in childhood or a difficult childhood

• Have anxiety, depression, negative self-talk, and rumination

• Feel like certain past experiences aren’t resolved

• Feel like you are living out the past in the present

• Feel stuck in your healing process

EMDR goes beyond traditional talk therapy and heals wounds at the root level. This form of therapy helps to settle the storms of emotional reactivity and negative thinking. It helps you put both feet back on the ground to feel in control of your emotions and life.

EMDR therapy can help you transform your relationship with your past, present, and future. With EMDR therapy, you will heal from trauma & find relief.

I’m Diane Dempcy, a certified EMDR therapist in Seattle

I use EMDR therapy to help you heal from past wounds and traumas that are being triggered in your day-to-day life. This deep healing work frees you from the tsunami of feelings from past hurts so you can enjoy your life today. In our time together you will find me direct and supportive in my observations, skilled at getting to the heart of the matter, and effective in helping you to make the changes you need.

We meet once a week either in my office or by Telehealth.  During the initial session, I get to know you: your history, what your life is like now, and how trauma is preventing you from reaching your goals. Then we get to work!

I don’t believe you need to be in therapy forever.

Frequently Asked Questions about Anxiety Therapy in Seattle

  • Not at all. EMDR therapy isn’t about endlessly going over painful memories—it’s about helping your brain and nervous system process and heal them, so they stop controlling your present. Sure, we might touch on the past, but the focus is on how those experiences are still showing up in your life today. Healing doesn’t mean reliving everything; it means finding peace and safety again, no matter what you’ve been through.

  • EMDR therapy isn’t about the size of the trauma—it’s about how it’s affecting your life. Whether it’s a major event or something that’s built up over time, if it’s causing you pain or distress, it’s worth addressing. No trauma is too small to heal. Your experiences are valid, and EMDR helps you move forward by processing what’s weighing you down. Healing is personal, and you deserve the space to work through it, no matter the magnitude.

  • Trauma can hijack your brain and keep it in a constant state of survival mode, even when there’s no immediate danger. Your nervous system holds onto these survival instincts, making it feel like you’re always on edge. EMDR helps to untangle these survival patterns and reconnect you with a calmer, more present version of yourself. Imagine not being on high alert all the time—just breathing, living, and feeling grounded again. That’s what EMDR therapy can help you achieve.

  • Yes, and it’s likely to be a version of yourself that’s stronger, wiser, and more resilient. Trauma has a way of making you feel disconnected from who you truly are, but healing through EMDR helps you reconnect with the parts of yourself that still feel joy, curiosity, and hope. You’re not broken—you’re just carrying some heavy stuff. And EMDR gives you the tools to start letting go of that weight, allowing your true self to emerge, unburdened.

  • Feeling unsure is completely normal. There’s no “perfect” time to start, but if you’re tired of feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed by your past, it might be the right time to give EMDR a try. We’ll work together at your pace, honoring where you’re at and giving you the tools to move forward. It’s not about having everything figured out; it’s about taking that first step toward feeling better. You deserve healing, no matter where you’re starting from.
